Local Arist Market @ Whole Foods

I'm so excited for September's Whole Foods event.

Saturday, September 3, 2011
Whole Foods
Santa Barbara, CA

Why, might you ask?
Well, for starters, I don't have to rush from paddling practice to the event to set up... which also means I get to sleep in. Yippee! I've also been waiting since May to get a ring that I've been eying up custom made to the size that fits me -- 5.5 to be exact, but I can't remember which finger actually fits that size. In any case, it will match the ring I wear everyday. The local artist will be stopping by on Saturday to drop off my order. I'm sure I'll be blogging about my purchase in the near future.

August has been such a crazy, busy month. I have one more paddling race to go before the season is over. I'm kind of looking forward to having a little more time for jewelry making. I have a few new necklaces that I'd like to make, and I'd like to start gearing up for the holiday season. Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier, Gem Faire will be in Santa Barbara this weekend! Too bad the price of silver and gold just sky rocketed. I'll just need to stock up on semi-precious stones and pearls instead.

I can't wait for the three day weekend to begin!

Doorstep Photography

I got home from work early and decided to finally take some photos of a few new items that I've designed recently. In my previous post I mentioned that I took my photos on a table outside. My mood has changed yet again and I've taken my last few photos on my doorstep.

It's a slightly unconventional place to shoot: I only have two steps, so I crouch to get the right angle (seemingly uncomfortable, but those who know me know that I'm great at squatting myself into a little ball - some have mentioned that it's somewhat bird-like, which I do not take offense. It's not surprising considering my extensive time I spent with birds - mainly chickens - growing up). The steps don't provide a very large, flat surface to shoot on - In fact, my white background cardstock/poster paper gets dirty on the steps and it needs to be replaced. But all being said, I like being outside and sitting on the floor, and the afternoon lighting works best for me. It just happened to amuse me when I thought about my situation at my doorstep so I decided it would be post-worthy.

I downloaded 77 pictures taken of 6 items and imported them into iPhoto (a very low number compared to my average shoot). I actually enjoy editing my photos even if it takes some time.

Here is another lovely bracelet. Today was a good doorstep day.

Local Artist Market @ Whole Foods

Another month, another Whole Foods event!

Saturday, August 6, 2011
LOCAL ARTIST MARKET
12pm - 5pm
Whole Foods Market
3761 State Street
Santa Barbara, CA 93105
I know Fiesta is this week/weekend, but don't forget to stop by!
Weather prediction: 71 degrees, sunny in the afternoon

I'll have new jewelry pieces for sale, and hopefully an improved set up (yay for DIY jewelry stands).

** UPDATE **

It started off a little cloudy, but it turned out to be a wonderful event. The best one yet! I just wanted to put up a picture of my newest display. I'm so proud because it features my two newest do-it-yourself jewelry stands!

What do you think? The jewelry stand on the left is actually a backless picture frame that I got at Michael's for 40% off. I also love that I was able to figure out how to have the picture frame stand upright on it's own - but that's a secret (unless you come check it out yourself!). The stand to the right is a couple of tree branches embedded into a vase full of beautiful blue-green sea glass. I found the branches in the park and spent days spray painting a million light coats until it was finally opaque white (I knew I should have called my dad first to get his expert opinion - I forgot to prime the branches... of course). Rogue Butterfly inspired this second jewelry stand. She had a similar stand to hang her earrings from (it was more earthy and natural - loved it). I'm so pleased that I was able to make a couple cost-effective displays that really complement my designs. I enjoyed the little side project as well (:
